A young woman, Ohne, wanders through an empty, dark room full of doors, without beginning or end. When she opens one, she finds herself in a memory. What begins as a series of flashbacks slowly grows into a subconscious confrontation with her own repressed grief and guilt. She returns to moments she would rather not relive: her mother's silent weariness, her father's suffocating presence, and her own childish confusion. In each memory, she stands between then and now—she sees, she feels, and she tries to understand. As the memories become increasingly ominous, Ohne realizes she cannot leave this place without acknowledging what she has suppressed for so long. Scherven is a film about the traces of childhood, about the way memories continue to shape us, and about the slowness and courage it takes to finally break free from them.
